Double Exposure

This page is a series of ideas that I explored while working on my self portrait. The top is was an attempt to use a mirror to take a photo in an environment where I was imposed on the environment. In the image directly left I am make a split image of my image through reflection. In the last image I attempted to take a double exposure shot in camera. I first took a photo of the back of a chair and then one of me looking into a mirror taking the photo. (I borrowed a Canon Mark IV). the double exposure was done in camera. I played around with it for sometime but wasn’t happy with the final result. Not sure I like the balance between my size and the size of the chair and not sure they work well together. I do like how it looks like my hand in holding the wrung of the chair on a separate layer. My final self portrait “Reflecting Back” is below.

“Reflecting Back” is a self portrait taken using reflection. The cameras is set up at the front of the room to take the photo of the mirror. I am at the back of the room several feet in front of the painting in order to keep my head size small enough so that the painting was visible. To enable the focus to be correct for both me and the mirror I stacked two images. This was taken in Watertown, MA on November 18, 2018. Camera Settings: 50 mm (f 6.3 1/30) ISO 2500
